"The Helsinki Atlas of the Near East in the Neo-Assyrian Period" is organized into two groups of maps. The first set consists of 17 overview maps at 1:2,000,000 that move step by step across the Near East. The second set consists of 16 detail maps at 1:1,000,000 that focus on the areas of greatest settlement in that region. A very thorough gazetteer and full wall map are included with the atlas. The atlas used the toponyms found in the Corpus of Neo-Assyrian Text Project. This data was enriched by both the RIM and the TAVO projects. The mapping is of the Assyrian empire at its height--the late 8th and 7th centuries B.C.E. Filling the long-felt need for accurate mapping of the Assyrian Empire, this collaborative effort of the CBAI and the SAA Project consists of 33 pages of color maps, a folded map of the whole area, 46 pages of gazetteer, and bibliography. A large rolled wall map of the whole area is also available separately.
