Most studies on the weather in the Hebrew Bible have focussed on rain storms (coming from the west) and have largely overlooked dry storms (coming from the east). This book redresses this lack with a close analysis of biblical texts and terminology associated with the east wind. The result is a much fuller understanding of the weather, especially in the autumn, and its impact on biblical texts especially in prophetic books and in the Psalms. The book of Joel is illuminated through an exploration of its weather imagery. The study holds important implications for understanding the religion of ancient Israel, especially with respect to the Feast of Sukkot (and theories about the "New Year" associated with the name of Sigmund Mowinckel).
